Brief

Our brief from Staffordshire University was clear – to design, install and deliver a state of the art ‘broadcast standard’ television studio centre, suitable for their wide range of practical and highly rated courses, as well as for use by the wider broadcast community in the region.

Solution

Opened by Her Majesty The Queen in March 2006, the Television Centre at Staffordshire University is the result of many months planning and design.

For this project we were commissioned at an early stage, which is ideal, as we provided extensive input into the building design and construction team, leading to a well thought out building and ease of installation.

The three-camera studio has a 100sqM broadcast standard studio floor with tiered seating for over 100. The Sony DXC-D50 widescreen cameras are mounted on Vinten Pro-peds with Vision 250 heads. All studio signals run via a comprehensive racks room with CCU’s, Waveform Monitor, matrix, streaming interface etc.

The gallery is fitted with Autocue, Avid Deko Graphics, For-A Vision Mixer and effects, Sony D50 CCU engineering remotes and DVCAM recording and playout facilities.

In the separate audio gallery is a 24 channel Alice Soundtech mixer with Tascam professional CD and Minidisc facilities. Lighting control is through a 48 channel Strand Genius Pro Light Pallete.

Over six hundred film students now enjoy a high standard of teaching coupled with outstanding resources and industry standard equipment and software.
